Did you know?

Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio: Overture is written in the Turkish 'janissary' style, characterised by a great variety of drums and bells and the combination of bass drum, triangle and cymbals.

Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.3 made full use of the 'technology' of the day - the additional keys recently added to pianos beyond the traditional five-octave range. In the concerto, soloists play all the way up to high G!

Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.3 is thought to be the first piano piece ever to include the high G.

By the time Beethoven got around to writing out the piano part for his Piano Concerto No.3 (a year on from its premiere) he was emboldened to push the range even further, all the way up to the C that sits above the fifth ledger line about the treble staff.

As Prokofiev took to the stage to conduct the premiere of his Fifth Symphony, artillery fired (as World War II raged). He paused until it finished, leaving a great impression on the audience.

The premiere of Prokofiev's Fifth Symphony marked the last time conducting for the composer; a few days later he suffered a fall and concussion and never fully regained his health.
