About the Composer
David ArnoldDavid Arnold is a multi award-winning British film and television composer. Best known for his work on blockbuster films such as Independence Day, Stargate and
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, he also took over the mantle from John Barry to compose the music for five James Bond films (including Casino Royale, for which he was nominated for a Grammy, a BAFTA and won Best Song at the World Soundtrack Awards). Other films scores include Godzilla, Shaft, Zoolander, Hot Fuzz, Made In Dagenham, Paul, and The Stepford Wives, to name but a few.
David’s television work includes Little Britain and Little Britain USA, and with Michael Price, the BAFTA-nominated and Emmy winning score for the BBC’s Sherlock. In addition to his film and television work, David wrote the music for the West End musical Made In Dagenham starring Gemma Arterton.
David’s awards include Grammys, Emmys, Ivor Novello and Royal Television Society Awards, and most recently he won the music category of the British Inspiration Awards.
In 2012, David was appointed to the prestigious role of Musical Director for the London Olympics & Paralympics Closing Ceremonies and was also involved in one of the highlights of the Jubilee Thames Flotilla: creating a new arrangement of the “James Bond Theme” as the Queen passed by MI6 headquarters.
As well as being a world-renowned score composer, David is a highly esteemed artist, record producer, songwriter and conductor who has worked with some of the biggest names in music, including Queen, Chrissie Hynde, Iggy Pop, Paloma Faith, George Michael, Massive Attack, the Kaiser Chiefs, Shirley Manson, Damien Rice, Dame Shirley Bassey and Sir Paul McCartney.
David has guested in several live concerts over the years, including a tribute to the late John Barry at The Royal Albert Hall in 2011, which he organised with Barry’s wife Laurie. A dedicated ambassador for the aid charity CARE International, David produced the spectacular series of fundraising concerts for the charity entitled Concert for CARE. He has produced and appeared at events for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, a charity run by the Royal Family, for whom he also has performed at Buckingham Palace at Christmas.
In July 2014, David made his London solo concert debut at the Royal Festival Hall with a critically acclaimed program of his greatest hits entitled David Arnold: A Life In Song. The concert encompassed some of his best-known film scores, collaborations with various artists and music from his upcoming projects, interspersed with his inimitable storytelling. It was a resounding success and prompted a solo UK tour in Spring/Summer 2015.
More recently, David has performed the score to Independence Day live to picture at the Royal Albert Hall and the Bord Gàis Theatre in Dublin. Future projects include a concert of his music from Sherlock, more TV and film work, as well as developing and writing two new stage musicals.

A note from the Composer
I’ve been a fan of the James Bond films and their music since I saw my first, You Only Live Twice, at the age of 8. I probably shouldn’t have seen it really... a giant space ship consuming a smaller space ship, a hollowed out volcano, and Sean Connery being post-coitally machine-gunned to death within the first ten minutes. But to a young man from Luton it all seemed incredibly exotic and exciting. It seems almost unbelievable that now, almost 50 years later, I find myself writing a program note for a live performance of my fourth score for a Bond movie: Casino Royale. It really has been a dream come true. Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson have been so kind and supportive of my involvement. I’m hugely indebted to them for giving me the opportunity to write not only one, but five scores for 007. Casino Royale was such a special experience... Working on the title song with the amazing and very much missed Chris Cornell, Martin Campbell’s ultra-energised direction, Stuart Baird’s masterful edit, and a dream of a script by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and Paul Haggis, all based on Ian Fleming’s brilliant source novel. And that cast... I’m so pleased that this film is the 007 live score premiere and that you’ll get to hear this music performed by the fantastic musicians of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jessica Gethin. It’s a chance for the film and the music to live again. Now I know why they always say, “James Bond will return...”
