Did you know?

Respighi's Fountains of Rome paints a musical picture of four of Rome's great fountains at different times of the day.

Barber was a prolific composer of music for voice, with two-thirds of his compositional output constituting art songs for voice and piano, choral music, and songs for voice and orchestra.

As large organs became more common in concert halls in the late 19th century, a repertoire of celebratory music for organ and orchestra began developing. Toccata festiva was written for the inauguration of the new organ at Philadelphia's Academy of Music.

Saint-Saëns began learning piano at just two and a half years old, and started composition and organ instruction at age seven.

Saint-Saëns was a man with many interests - not only an accomplished organist, Saint-Saëns was also a teacher, a writer, and had interests ranging from astronomy to archaeology, philosophy and even occult sciences.

Saint-Saëns' Organ Symphony featured on the soundtrack to the film Babe. Recent WASO collaborator Nigel Westlake also wrote the score to the film!

Radiant Rachmaninov

Macedonian virtuoso Simon Trpčeski joins WASO for Brahms’ monumental First Piano Concerto. From the thunderous opening to the commanding finish, you’ll be engrossed in the power and artistry of this timeless work.

Symphonic Dances was Rachmaninov’s last major work, written as the composer grappled with the exile from his homeland. Paying homage to the rich romanticism of his earlier music, the vital energy and lingering melodies will dance across the Perth Concert Hall stage as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Rachmaninov’s birth.
