Did you know?

Tchaikovsky's Nocturne for Piano was arranged for cello and orchestra for a performance by Anatoly Brandukov in Paris in February 1888.

Tchaikovsky's manuscript score for the Nocturne (with the cello part inserted by Anatoly Brandukov) is now preserved in the Tchaikovsky House-Museum Archive.

Tchaikovsky began writing his First Symphony in March of 1866, although it didn't premiere until almost two years later in the February of 1868.

At the time, music instructors and chamber musicians were looked down upon. So, in 1859, Tchaikovsky embarked on a public service career and spent three years in the Ministry of Justice.
