About the Artists
Jen Winley
Conductor
Jen Winley is WASO’s Associate Conductor.
Australian conductor Jen Winley was appointed West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO)’s inaugural Associate Conductor in 2024, after holding the Assistant Conductor position since 2022. An accomplished percussionist and timpanist, Jen has previously performed regularly with WASO, as well as with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) and Orchestra Victoria. She returned to MSO in 2024 for her first conducting appearance with the orchestra.
Jen made her professional conducting debut in 2020 while participating in WASO’s Emerging Conductors program. She went on to lead the Orchestra in a wide variety of performances, including mainstage concerts, Family, Education and Community Engagement projects, regional tours, films in concert, and contemporary and recording projects. Highlights from her cross-genre projects include conducting WASO in Home Alone in Concert and the world premiere performances of Drapht and WASO: How the West Was Won; a collaboration with Perth hip-hop artist Drapht, that culminated in the Orchestra’s first music videos.
Jen recently became a member of an exclusive group of conductors around the world who are approved to conduct Disney in Concert events, going on to conduct WASO in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Frozen, and Toy Story in Concert. She made a further company debut with West Australian Opera (WAO) as Music Director for Sondheim’s Into the Woods (2023).
Jen is highly focused on innovative programming development for educational and family concerts, and has frequently collaborated with acclaimed UK animateur Paul Rissman, most recently conducting the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Sounds Like an Orchestra. She has played a key role in in developing several shows in this genre for WASO. Jen spent several years as a classroom educator and continues to enjoy working with young people. She currently oversees the WASO Conducting Fellowship Program, has conducted the Western Australian Youth Orchestra since 2019, and makes her debut with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra in 2025.
She will conduct Symphony on the Waterfront in 2025 in her first appearance with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and returns to WAO as Assistant Conductor for their season of Verdi’s Il trovatore.

Australian soprano Lorina Gore completed her postgraduate voice studies at the Australian National University in Canberra and at the National Opera Studio in London. She has won numerous prestigious opera awards, including two Helpmann Awards (2017 and 2018), a Green Room Award (2018), the Dame Joan Sutherland Scholarship (AOAC), the Opera Awards, the Covent Garden National Opera Studio Scholarship, 2nd prize in the Herald-Sun Aria (2002 and 2004), and first place in the Australian National Aria Competition.
Lorina joined Opera Australia as a principal artist in 2008 and has since performed many roles for the company including: Violetta (La Traviata), Marie (Wozzeck), Roxana (King Roger), Leïla (Les pêcheurs de perles), Amina (La sonnambula), Musetta (La Bohème), Queen of Night (Die Zauberflöte), Die Fiakermilli (Arabella), Tytania (Midsummer Night’s Dream), Honey B (Bliss), Yum-Yum (The Mikado), Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), Marzelline (Fidelio), and Woglinde (Der Ring des Nibelungen). International operatic roles include Lucia di Lammermoor for Iford Arts, Die Fiakermilli (Arabella) for Garsington Opera, Giulia (La Scala di Seta) for Independent Opera, Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Agilea (Teseo) and Sandrina (L’infedeltà delusa) for English Touring Opera, and performances of Norina (Don Pasquale) and Violetta (La Traviata) for New Zealand Opera. In 2024, she performed Ophelia in Brett Dean’s Hamlet with Opera Australia at the Sydney Opera House, and in 2025 reprised the role of Violetta in La Traviata for the national company.
Recordings include: A Toast to Melba and also Johann Strauss: Waltzes and Arias with Marko Letonja and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra for ABC Classics, highlights from Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier with Yvonne Kenny, Bliss with Opera Australia, and Handel’s Rodelinda conducted by Maestro Richard Bonynge.

WASO Chorus
The WASO Chorus was formed in 1988 and consists of over 100 volunteer choristers who represent the finest form of community music making, bringing together singers from all walks of life. They regularly feature in the WASO annual concert season and are directed by Hugh Lydon.
The Chorus has built an international reputation for its high standards and diverse range of repertoire. While its main role is to perform with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, the Chorus also maintains a profile of solo concerts, tours and community engagements.
The Chorus sings with the finest conductors and soloists including Asher Fisch, Simone Young, Stephen Layton and Paul Daniel. Recent highlights have included Mahler’s Symphony No.8 and Britten’s War Requiem. In 2019, the Chorus performed at the Denmark Festival of Voice and in 2018 toured China with performances of Orff’s Carmina burana.
In 2020, they performed two Gala events on the Kalbarri Skywalk. In 2023, the Chorus was invited to Hobart to perform Brahms’ German Requiem with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO), the TSO Chorus, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and members of the public, conducted by Simon Halsey. Last year, the WASO Chorus performed with members of the WA Opera Chorus, the UWA Symphonic Chorus, Voyces and Aquinas College’s Schola Cantorum in WASO’s presentation of Mahler’s Symphony No.8.

Hans Zimmer has scored more than 200 projects across all mediums, which, combined, have grossed more than 28 billion dollars at the worldwide box office. Zimmer has been honored with an Academy Award®, two Golden Globes®, three Grammys®, an American Music Award, and a Tony® Award. His work highlights include Gladiator, The Thin Red Line, As Good as It Gets, Rain Man, The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Thelma and Louise, The Last Samurai, 12 Years A Slave, Blade Runner 2049 (co-scored w/ Benjamin Wallfisch) and Dunkirk.
In 2019, Zimmer scored the live-action remake of The Lion King, for which he received a Grammy® nomination for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. Zimmer’s films for 2020/2021 included Wonder Woman 1984, the James Bond film No Time to Die, Ron Howard’s Hillbilly Elegy, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, Top Gun: Maverick, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, and The Boss Baby: Family Business. With a vision and vocal style that is as unique as it is precise and all-embracing, Lisa Gerrard has established herself as one of the world’s most highly acclaimed film composers, winning a Golden Globe for her work on the score for Gladiator with Hans Zimmer.
Her musical journey began in the early 1980s when she and fellow Australian, Brendan Perry, formed duo ‘Dead Can Dance’. In 2012, the band reunited for a sell-out world tour. With nine albums released between 1984 and 1995, the duo's musical canvas expanded with each release to take in a timeless mix of world-music influences, medieval chants, folk ballads, baroque stylings, Celtic flavours, electronics, samples and anything else that took their fancy. Several solo and collaborative albums were well received and Lisa made a natural progression to composing for films.
Lisa’s film work includes Whale Rider, a feature which received an Academy Award nomination and garnered Lisa an international award for the score. In 2009, she scored the highly acclaimed feature Balibo, for which she won the 2009 Screen Music Award for Best Feature Film Score, an Aria Award, and 3 further nominations. In 2011, she completed the score for Burning Man, which won her Best Music Score at the 2011 Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards. In 2016, she collaborated with Marcello De Francisci on the score for the feature Jane Got a Gun, directed by Gavin O’Connor and starring Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor.
Lisa has collaborated with James Orr on a number of scores, including Paul Currie’s 2016 thriller 2:22. In 2017, they completed the score to West of Sunshine, which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. In 2019, they scored the television series Secret Bridesmaids’ Business, which aired in Australia on Channel 7. The original soundtrack for the series was released with Air-Edel Records. Most recently, Lisa collaborated with Lorenzo Esposito to co-compose and perform vocals on 100 Preludi, directed by Alessandra Pescetta. The film premiered at Sguardi Altrove Film Festival in 2024.
