Did you know?

The year before he died, a performance of Haydn's The Creation was attended by such composing greats as Beethoven and Salieri (who conducted the performance), and Haydn was carried in on a special throne.

Sibelius inscribed early editions of the score of The Swan of Tuonela with an atmospheric description, “Tuonela, the Kingdom of Death, the Hades of Finnish mythology, is surrounded by a broad river of black water and rapid current, on which the Swan of Tuonela glides in majestic fashion and sings.”

The premiere of Schumann's Cello Concerto took place in 1860 at the Leipzig Conservatory with Ludwig Ebert as soloist, posthumously marking the composer’s 50th birthday.

Carlos Santana's 1999 pop hit Love of My Life, featuring Dave Matthews, is based on the third movement of Brahms' Symphony No.3.
